Regeneration

Urban decline and the problems it presents are caused by ongoing interaction between economic, social, physical, environmental and institutional factors.  Effective Urban Regeneration schemes have to be based on full understanding of these interactive processes and on effective ways of modifying their root causes. Successful regeneration planning and programming requires the application of a wide range of skills, including community development, stakeholder engagement, strategic planning and concept definition, economic and employment appraisal, masterplanning and local action planning.

The Globe approach, which is rooted firmly in integrated planning, is ideal for public and private sector clients engaged in either major regeneration schemes or smaller projects at the grassroots level.

Our consultants’ regeneration portfolio in the UK includes city centre planning schemes such as the Lincoln Central Rail Corridor, major mixed-use regeneration schemes such as Victoria Harbour, Hartlepool and Brayford Enterprise Park, Lincoln and regeneration initiatives for residential estates such as Bethnal Green, London and the Gurnos Estate, Merthyr Tydfill.  We have worked on preparation of a Visitor Masterplan for the Lincolnshire Coast for Lincolnshire Tourism and East Midlands Tourism, and for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council  we reviewed the regenerative impact of recent and proposed major development of employment land in Goole and Howden as part of the Gateway Goole Renaissance.

All these cases involved leading or working within a multidisciplinary team and our contribution focused on understanding complex causes and effects, involving all relevant stakeholders, and providing a strategy for delivery.
